Iggy’s World: Batman Arkham Origins

Can you believe the month of Arkham is nearly over, the official debut of Arkham Knight is days away at this point. Before you have an Omega, there must be an Alpha. With Rocksteady focusing on Arkham Knight, development for Origins was given to WB Montreal, who were responsible for the Wii U port of Arkham City.  Which lead me to questioning the quality of this game, sure they have the blueprint for greatness but can WB replicate the magic from previous installments.

Iggy’s World: Batman Arkham City

2010-08-09-batman_arkham_city1The month of Arkham continues with the game that made me purchase a PS3, of course I’m referring to Arkham City. The hype train for this game was insane and for the life of me I can’t remember a sequel that garnered all theattention heading into Arkham’s City initial release. With seemingly impossibly high expectations from fans who have played Arkham Asylum and those who heard how amazing Asylum was and decided to jump right into the fray with the gigantic super prison, Arkham City. Normally I ask if this game lived up to hype, but given that Arkham Knight is right around the corner, that should be your answer.

Iggy’s World: Batman Arkham Asylum

877495-batmaaanThe month of Arkham begins with Batman: Arkham Asylum, but you already know that from reading the title of this post. It’s time to celebrate the demented mental institution which is now a immensely popular franchise, but now I will take a look at it’s origins (no not that Origins, that’s two weeks from now) as Rocksteady attempts to bring The Dark Knight into the sandbox genre. It’s also worth nothing that prior to Arkham Asylum’s release Batman didn’t exactly have the greatest track record within the realm of games. So did Rocksteady find the secret formula to make a great Batman game? (spoilers five games later and I think they did.)

Mr.Dragon will also be streaming Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City on Twitch at  on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Friday through Sunday between 10am to 5pm central standard time.

Iggy’s World: The Legend of Zelda Majoras Mask 3D

ctr_zeldamm_ts_eur_dummy__largeHow do you follow up a critically acclaimed title? You tread with caution as you don’t want to make a dramatic shift from something that works, but also you don’t want to simply repeat what you’ve done before. A good sequel adds and improves upon instead of simple rehashing. Which is where we enter Majoras Mask a game that has become a cult classic to everyone’s favorite Zelda game in the span of fifteen years. Now that it’s been remastered for the 3DS how has this game stood against the river of time?

Iggy’s World: The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D

urlBack in 1998 if you’re a fan of video games, the primary conversation centered around two games. Those two being Final Fantasy VII and Ocarina of Time. For me the spinner landed on OOT due to my Dad leaning towards Nintendo products in the 90’s. So now it’s sixteen years since it’s initial release and in 2011 Nintendo remastered what many consider to be one of the greatest games of all time (balls in your court Square Enix). So with that being said, let’s take a look at an all time classic and see if it stands the test of time.

Iggy’s World: Why I love The Legend of Zelda

When it comes to the world of video games, there is always that one series that solidified our love for this genre of entertainment. For me it all started with the boy with a green hat, and princess who captured my heart. As I grow older I’ve began to appreciate what exactly the Zelda series has done for me so this isn’t going to be a critical analysis but instead why I continue to love this series despite it’s flaws.

Iggy’s World: Shantae and The Pirates Curse

Have you heard of a game through the power of social media? Well for me that game happens to be Shantae and The Pirates Curse. For those that are curious I have never played the previous two games so I went into this one blind. Well mostly blind, when I was told that the Shantae series was rooted in the Metroidvania style gameplay my interests were peaked.  Can someone who’s never played a Shantae game before jump right in? Well I’m here to see if it’s true.

Iggy’s World: Azure Striker Gunvolt

271593-headerAt the time I’m writing this, it has been ten years since Mega Man X8 was released. Yes I am aware of the Zero series but I’m still yearning for a true sequel to the X series and the rate Capcom is going Mega Man X9 will never come to fruition. Enter this hidden game (to me at least) called Azure Striker Gunvolt and when I saw at demonstration for it my interest were peaked. When I eventually found out that Keji Inafune had a hand in the project along with the team behind the Zero series I had to play this game. Now that I’ve beaten, does it fill the hole of X being gone? Let’s find out together.
